Our Middle School program is committed to
the growth of each child’s academic and social/emotional
development. In and out of the classroom, students learn to
challenge themselves and accept responsibility. Our teachers
invite each child to stretch and grow within an environment
that emphasizes the values of “respect, responsibility,
trustworthiness and compassion.” As our Mission suggests,
we embrace the opportunity to build an “emotionally
and physically safe community” for each of our young
learners.
The academic program at Liggett provides
a thoughtful balance between a traditional curriculum and
progressive instruction. Our students enjoy a challenging
program that includes core classes as well as modern and classical
languages, fine and performing arts, communications and technology.
The faculty is comprised of specially trained teachers who
are fully engaged in their field of study. Teachers bring
their passions to the classroom and to the cocurricular activities
that enhance our unique curriculum. Additionally, the small
class size and attention to learning style allows us to unlock
the potential of each student.
Within our building and our daily routines,
the emphasis is on developing the whole child. The Advisory
Program, for example, empowers children to become self-advocates,
to take risks, to learn from each other, and to derive confidence
from the experience of pushing beyond that comfort zone. The
Middle School’s exceptional Outdoor Education program
provides a wonderfully safe forum for this type of self-discovery
outside the school walls.
At the Middle School, faculty and staff
are committed to supporting each student’s positive
growth though a critical phase of life. We enjoy being a part
of the team (staff, student, family) that helps adolescents
exceed expectations while redefining goals and aspirations.
