University Liggett School

Admission Process

The University Liggett School recommends that families start the application process early, when making the important decision to join a new school community, so they may gather all the information necessary. Research has shown that students
adjust more readily when they have time to let the discovery process unfold during
the course of the previous school year. This process of discovery also allows us to
plan ahead and match students with the best courses and programs. The outline
below is designed to familiarize new families with our recommended process. For
further information about any of these steps, please contact the admission office by
e-mailing admissions@uls.org

Step 1: Browse and Inquire
Take some time to browse this website and gather information about our
community. The Enrollment pages will introduce to some current students
discussing aspects of the Liggett Experience including: athletics, college placement,
and the Senior Project program. If you like what you read, be sure to click the
Online Inquiry form linked to the Enrollment page. When you complete this form,
we will send you an admissions package including an application and a Viewbook
with more information about our philosophy and program.

Once you fill out that form, the process is underway!

Step II: Visit and Interview
After receiving the application package, determine when you would like to visit and
interview. We believe that a full-day visit gives applicants the opportunity
to see us in action. To arrange a visit, please call Sue Vallone at (313) 884-4444
ext. 406.

Open Houses and Information Sessions provide an additional opportunity to ask
questions and discover more about what makes Liggett special.

Step III: Testing
Like most independent schools, University Liggett School requires standardized
testing for all applicants after the fourth grade. For your convenience, we administer
entrance exams at the Cook Road campus at the following dates and times:
– October
– November
– December
– January
– February

Additionally, Liggett also accepts the ISEE and the SSAT, two alternate entrance exams, which are administered in locally.
• For information regarding ISEE test centers, click here.
• For information regarding SSAT test centers, click here.

If you are applying after the February 15 deadline, please contact the Admission
Office to schedule testing.

Step IV: Apply
When you are ready to apply, you may fill on the application you received in
your admission’s package, or download the form by clicking the link at the top of
this page. We ask that you complete the entire application and enclose the $50
application fee. For a fee waiver, please contact the Admission Office. Applications
received before the February 15 deadline will be given priority in the enrollment
process. For an application to be considered complete, we require two teacher
recommendations and an official transcript. Once your application is complete, you
will receive a letter from us confirming the receipt of all documents

If you are applying for financial assistance, we urge you to complete that process as
soon as possible, but no later than February 15. For further information regarding
financial assistance, please click here.

Decisions on financial aid awards accompany acceptances and enrollment contracts.

Step V: Decide
All students who meet the application deadline will receive enrollment decisions
on March 25. Families will then have 30 days to make a decision about joining the
University Liggett School community.
