Needs-Based
Financial Aid
Schools award financial aid grants based upon the financial
need of a family. These grants do not need to be paid back
and are used to offset tuition costs. The money for these grants
comes directly from the school’s budget.
To determine your family’s eligibility, you will have
to fill out an application for financial aid. You can get this
form by applying online or from the Liggett
Admissions Office. Most schools use the Parents’ Financial
Statement (PFS) from the School Student Service for Financial
Aid (SSS) in Princeton, New Jersey. The School and Student
Service for Financial Aid is an independent needs assessment
program used by thousands of independent schools nationwide.
University Liggett School is committed to making education
accessible to students from all backgrounds, regardless of
financial means. We accomplish this goal by bridging the gap
between what a family can afford and the actual cost of a Liggett
education. Although we are unable to fund all families interested
in Liggett, we do understand the difficulty in financing an independent
school education, and are proud to award more than $2,000,000
in financial assistance to students from Southeastern Michigan.
Because we cannot aid all of our qualified
applicants, University Liggett School will wait-list an applicant
who qualifies for financial aid if we do not have both financial
aid and a place available. Once an applicant who qualifies
for financial aid has been wait-listed, both a place and financial
assistance must become available before that applicant will
be taken off the wait-list. This policy is different from school
to school. Please ask each school that you are applying to
about their policy.
Those interested in applying for financial
aid should check the appropriate box on the application. Applications
for financial aid should be submitted as early as possible
and no later than February 15. Applications received after
that date will be considered for as long as funds remain available.
The Parents Financial Statement (PFS) must be completed and
returned to the School and Student Service for Financial Aid
(SSS) Box 599, Princeton, New Jersey, 08540. A photocopy of
your most recent 1040 tax forms must be submitted directly
to the Admission Office.
Tuition Loans Program
Tuition loan programs assist many families in making tuition payments more affordable by providing the funds upfront and spreading the payments over a longer period of time than tuition payment plans allow.
Due to the recent turmoil in the financial markets, most providers of loans for private school tuition have suspended or canceled lending to the K-12 market. NAIS is aware that some options still remain for families to consider but it much smaller measure than in years past. As more programs return to market or as new ones are created, we will update this page.
