Liggett's challenging. It's true. But after freshman year, you learn how to work with what they give you. And you learn how to manage your time between school and sports or plays and you teach yourself how to do all of it and how to get all of it done. And you're used to people expecting a lot of you. I think that everyone should have an opportunity to go here, but unfortunately they don't. Education aside, your personality changes, you learn how to be really friendly and happy and you learn so much here other than chemistry and math. It's just so rewarding to come here. I don't live in Grosse Pointe and I commute every day from St. Clair Shores. And I left a public middle school with friends I had since kindergarten and I think that coming here was really good for me. It changed me a lot as a person.

I think that the reason that people should come to Liggett is opportunity. There's opportunity here on a level of attention that you get from the teachers. You get a chance to try out for sports that you wouldn't even make a cut at the public schools. And a lot of times, talents are discovered that would never be discovered had you not been given the opportunity when you come to Liggett.

KRISTEN SMITHERMAN
We were looking at a lot of different high schools for me. And one thing that I really noticed about University Liggett was that it was a small, close knit community. And that was something that I personally value and that's something that I really wanted in high school. Some of these other larger high schools you barely know your teachers. But here you really get to know everyone in your class. You develop personal relationships with your teachers that last a long time.

I think that these teachers here, and the way they go about their jobs – always going that extra mile to help you out or just have a cup of coffee before a test or just to review something the night before – really allows you to gain respect for how they act. It allows you to mature a lot faster than you would have in an alternate environment.
